The Soul of a Century

For over 100 years, we are custodians of a sacred craft, guardians of tradition, and storytellers who cast legacies in gold and gemstones. Our journey is one of passion, precision, and the relentless pursuit of perfection.

Our creations embody tradition, artistry, and timeless elegance, connecting the past with the present.

The Soul of a Century

For over a hundred years, Ratna Veda has embodied the artistry and vision of four generations of master jewellers. What began with Venkatrao Sheshgiri Revankar’s journey from Konkan to Mumbai in 1920—transforming sacred temple goldwork into a respected heritage business—grew into a trusted supplier for India’s most distinguished jewellery houses, earning both royal patronage and national acclaim.

Today, Ratna Veda unites its legacy of fine craftsmanship and wholesale trust with creative innovation, crafting thematic collections that celebrate Indian culture.

From a coastal town in India to the global stage, our legacy is built on moments of significance.

Our Journey Through Time

Venkatrao Sheshgiri Revankar, born into the Daivadnya Brahmin community—an elite lineage of jewellers famed for their temple ornamentation—first traveled from Konkan to Mumbai in 1920s with a singular vision: to preserve a rarefied art through commerce. This was not a common goldsmith’s tale, but the deliberate expansion of a closed, sacred craft beyond temples and community confines. Venkatrao’s early years were marked by apprenticeship under his father, the renowned artist Sheshgiri, whose expertise in crafting divine idols for temples was legendary. Yet, Venktarao saw a future where this artistry would be sought after by India’s elite, not just as religious offerings, but as personal treasures and investments.

By the 1970s, Venkatrao’s sons had all entered the business, each a custodian of the family’s dual legacy: sacred artistry and commercial ingenuity. However, as the brothers matured, the entrepreneurial spirit diverged. The elder sons ventured out, establishing independently across India—a natural evolution of ambition and opportunity. The business remained robust, but the joint family structure that had underpinned it began to change.

When the joint V.S. Revankar Jewellers formally separated in the mid-1980s, Ganapati Venkatrao Revankar, the youngest son, became the sole custodian of the original firm. This was not a retreat, but a consolidation of values, technique, and reputation. Ganapati’s leadership was defined by a quiet mastery and a keen eye for detail—he was less a showman than a guardian of tradition and quality. Under his stewardship, V.S. Revankar Jewellers continued to supply the most demanding wholesale clients in Maharashtra, its gold trusted, its designs revered. This was still not a retail house, but a silent pillar of India’s jewellery industry.

Global Horizons

Sanjay Revankar—Ganapati’s son—began to shape the firm’s direction with a vision decidedly international and creative. While Ganapati remained a respected figurehead and advisor, Sanjay who tried to pursue new markets, new collectors, and new possibilities. He modernized the firm’s design approach, blending traditional motifs with contemporary sensibilities, and—critically—took the family’s work to Singapore, Nepal and beyond - a strategic engagement with international collectors, art dealers, and luxury retailers. For the first time, the Revankar gold was not simply melted and reset by others, but signed, displayed, and collected under its own name.

However, unforeseen difficulties impacted the business including the 2007 GFC and this decade became more firefighting than growth.

2000
2011

A century after Venkatrao’s first bold steps, Ratna Veda was launched—a hybrid of India’s finest wholesale tradition and a globally focused luxury brand. This was not a rejection of the past, but its elevation: thematic collections, curated for international art fairs, private collectors, and the world’s top luxury retailers. The wholesale arm, V.S. Revankar Jewellers, still serves India’s most discerning jewellers, but Ratna Veda is the public face—a beacon of Indian heritage for global connoisseurs.

From temple goldsmith to trusted supplier for India’s elite, to international emissary of artistry—the Revankar story is one of evolution, vision, and resilience. Ganapati’s era was that of the master craftsman and silent guardian; Sanjay’s is that of the global ambassador and creative force. Ratna Veda is the culmination: gold as art, heritage as investment, and India’s legacy as a universal treasure.

The 2010s marked a decisive pivot under Sanjay’s leadership. The launch of bespoke services and antique-inspired collections—culminating in the 2011 debut of the house’s exquisite antique designs—fundamentally altered the business. The wholesale foundation remained, but Ratna Veda was becoming a brand—curating, narrating, and owning its story. Restoration and personalization transformed client relationships; collectors sought pieces that were not only beautiful but unique. These were not just jewels, but cultural artifacts—living testaments to India’s heritage. The legacy supply to Mumbai’s great houses continued, but the ambition now stretched worldwide.

A Century - Ratna Veda

By mid-century, Venkatrao Revankar’s perseverance had transformed the family from artists to suppliers of choice for Mumbai’s and Maharashtra’s great jewellery houses. The wholesale model became the backbone of the business—crafting for experts, for those who knew the finest gold and the most intricate designs.

Most importantly setting the stage for many other jewellers and creating a new indstury. This was not retail, but the business behind the business: supplying pieces that would bear the names of India’s most illustrious jewellers. The Revankar family’s uncompromising standards, devotional motifs, and mastery of classical goldwork earned them royal commissions, the patronage of wealthy families, and the unspoken respect of the trade. Their work was known for integrity, durability, and a timelessness that transcended fashion.

Our Journey Through Time

Venkatrao Sheshgiri Revankar, heir to the Daivadnya Brahmin goldsmithing legacy, journeyed from Konkan to Mumbai in the 1920s to transcend temple-bound artistry. Trained under his father Sheshgiri, a legendary idol craftsman, he envisioned sacred goldwork reborn as heirlooms of prestige and power.

A Century - Ratna Veda

A hundred years after Venkatrao’s bold first steps, Ratna Veda was born — a seamless fusion of India’s century-old wholesale mastery and a modern global luxury vision. While V.S. Revankar Jewellers continues to serve India’s most discerning jewellers, Ratna Veda stands as the house’s public face, curating thematic collections for international fairs, private collectors, and luxury connoisseurs.

From temple goldsmith to elite supplier, to a global custodian of heritage, the Revankar story spans a century of evolution, resilience, and artistry — culminating in Ratna Veda, where gold becomes art, heritage becomes investment, and India’s legacy shines as a universal treasure.

By mid-century, Venkatrao Revankar had elevated the family from artisans to the silent force behind Maharashtra’s great jewellery houses. The wholesale craft became their empire — shaping an industry, supplying masterpieces that bore the names of India’s elite jewellers. Unyielding standards, sacred motifs, and classical mastery won them royal commissions, enduring patronage, and the quiet reverence of the trade.

By the 1980s, the Venkatrao's elder sons pursued independent paths, and the original V.S. Revankar Jewellers came under the stewardship of Ganapati Venkatrao Revankar. A guardian of tradition rather than a showman, he upheld the family’s exacting standards, ensuring the house remained a silent yet unshakable pillar of India’s jewellery trade.

Sanjay Revankar, son of Ganapati, reimagined the house with an international lens—melding tradition with modern design and taking the family’s gold to Singapore, Nepal, and beyond, now signed and collected under its own name. Yet, the turbulence of the 2007 global financial crisis shifted this era from expansion to resilience and survival.

The 2010s saw Sanjay steer a bold transformation—introducing bespoke services and antique-inspired collections, with the 2011 debut of Ratna Veda’s signature designs marking a new era. No longer just a wholesale name, the house evolved into a storyteller of heritage, crafting jewels as cultural artifacts while expanding its vision onto the global stage.
